The adventure, day by day

Master new moves and fast-track your rock climbing skills at Long Dong’s towering cliffs in Taiwan. Enjoy your day on the crags and scale a plethora of various routes with a private guide and revel in the marvelous scenery around you. Conquer some classic climbs such as Golden Shower and Moby Dick (5.9) or whichever ones are suitable for your skill level. Day 1: Establishing a baseline

Day 2: Reviewing skills from the previous day
Today you’ll get to review everything you learned yesterday and keep practicing new skills for the rest of the day. Throughout the whole process, your female guide and friends will encourage you so that you can reach your climbing goals.

Let an expert guide show you the ropes of trad climbing at Long Dong, one of Asia’s best trad climbing destinations. Focus on gear placement and anchor building in a single pitch setting during this two-day workshop and learn how to climb safely on these breathtaking cliffs. The best routes for climbers learning trad are in Golden Valley, but there are plenty of other classic trad routes ranging from 5.4-5.11a.

Intro to Trad Climbing:

Day 1: Skill assessment and climbing
Your adventure will start off with your guide assessing your skills and establishing a baseline for individual goals.   • If you can climb a ladder, you’re good to go. Being in good shape is always a plus but far from necessary. Rock climbing is all about using good movement technique rather than muscling up a cliff using brute strength. To ensure you have a fun day, your guide will choose routes that best suit your skill and fitness level.

  • Long Dong has plenty of options for beginner climbers. Whether you’ve never climbed before or are transitioning from the gym to outdoor climbing, your guide will customize the day to suit your skill level and objectives. With a guide by your side, you’ll learn something new, stay safe on the rocks, and most importantly, have fun!

    For intermediate to advanced climbers, Long Dong has loads of routes to spend the day on. Your guide will discuss your objectives and customize the day to your goals. Let your guide plan the day so you can focus on developing your skills while climbing the classic routes or best hidden gems the area has to offer.

  • All technical climbing equipment will be provided by your guiding service. However, if you have your own gear, feel free to bring it. You’ll need:

      • Helmet
      • Harness with a locking carabiner, belay device, and chalk bag
      • Ropes
      • Rock shoes
      • Climbing hardware (quickdraws, cam devices, stoppers, etc.)

    Here’s a list of the equipment we suggest you bring:

      • Day pack large enough to carry all the items listed (around a 40L bag)
      • Water bottle
      • Food you can eat on-the-go
      • Toiletries (sunscreen, bug spray, toilet paper, etc.)
      • Sunglasses
      • Camera — optional

    Dress comfortably and for the weather in clothes you can move in. We suggest bringing clothing appropriate for the season. Layers are best and don’t wear jeans.

  • Group sizes and prices:

      • The group size for these climbs are usually between 1–4 people with one guide. 
      • Costs per person decrease as the group grows for private tours, so it’s the perfect opportunity to climb with friends and family. 
      • The max. guest to guide ratio for these climbs is 4:1.

    Climbing days at Long Dong, Taiwan, can be arranged for bigger groups. Contact us prior to booking.

    Min. age requirements:

      • If you are older than 18, you’re good to go.
      • Minors younger than 18 may be permitted to climb on a case-by-case basis, but must be in the presence of a parent or legal guardian.

    If your group has climbers under the age of 18, contact us prior to booking to make arrangements.

  • To get to Long Dong, Taiwan, most people fly into Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 1.5 hours from Long Dong. From there, you can rent a car, or get to Taipei Main Station and take a bus from there. You can also take a train from Taipei Main Station to Keelung and transfer to the local bus 791.

    Once you and your guide agree on the details of your itinerary, your guide will suggest the best place to meet, whether that’s at the guide shop or a predetermined location. The guide will choose the appropriate terrain dependent on conditions and the ability of the group.

  • Once the trip is confirmed by the guide, the cancellation policy stated below applies. 

      • If the client cancels the booking anytime prior to fourteen (14) calendar days in advance of the trip contemplated by the booking, the client is entitled to a full refund. 
      • For cancellations seven (7) to thirteen (13) calendar days in advance, the client is entitled to a credit with that guide for another identical or substantially similar booking, or a full refund, minus a one hundred-fifty dollar ($150) reservation fee. 
      • For cancellations one to six calendar days in advance, the client is entitled to a full refund, minus a one hundred-fifty dollar ($150) reservation fee. 
      • For cancellations anytime less than 25 hours in advance, the client is not entitled to any refund.
