How fit do I need to be?

This Laugavegur hiking tour suits those that are physically active and have some background in basic traveling in mountainous terrain with a backpack. You should be able to walk five to eight hours with much elevation gain, hiking anywhere between eight to eleven miles. Your guide will make sure to customize the tempo according to the skill and fitness of your group. Keep in mind that you will hike for 3 or 4 full days and that you’ll also be packing a backpack filled with water, food, and other things you’ll need throughout that day.

Group sizes and age requirements

Group sizes and prices: For this adventure, the max client-to-guide ratio is 16:1. The cost per person decreases as the group grows, so it’s the perfect opportunity to hike with friends and family! This tour requires a minimum of 8 people to run. Hiking in Laugavegur can be arranged for larger groups. Contact us to make arrangements. Min. age requirements: If you are older than 18, you’re good to go. Minors younger than 18 may be permitted to join the hike on a case-by-case basis, but must be in the presence of a parent or legal guardian. If your group has hikers under the age of 18, contact us prior to booking to make arrangements.

Getting there and meeting location

To get to Iceland, most people fly into Keflavík International Airport, located 45 minutes from the city center. From there, the best and the cheapest way is to take one of the public busses like Airport Direct or Flybus. Buses leave 35-40 minutes after the arrival of each flight, 24/7. Once you and your guide agree on the details of your itinerary, your guide will suggest the best place to meet, whether that’s at the BSÍ bus terminal in Reykjavík or a predetermined location. The guide will choose the appropriate terrain dependent on conditions and the ability of the group.

Waiver and release of liability

Liability waivers are a standard part of all guided outdoor adventures. Recently, the requirements have become a bit more rigorous for ACMG guides—meaning that you’ll need to agree to the signing of the waiver at the time of booking. Prior to booking, we ask you to review the waiver . During the checkout process, you’ll have to acknowledge the risks and agree to the signing of the waiver. You are required to bring a printed copy on the trip. Please note that signing and agreeing to the terms of the waiver is required in order to join this adventure. You’ll meet your group at the meeting point in Reykjavik city, BSI Bus Terminal and load the luggage into the bus. The drive to Landmannalaugar is a magical experience as you drive through many different contrasts of landscape and vegetation. As you move from the populated part of Iceland into the desolate black highlands, you will see many beautiful sights along the way in Fjallabak nature reserve. Enjoy the view of the incredible colors of Landmannalaugar: black, red, orange, green, blue—all coming together in the rhyolite mountains. Arrive at the hut and start getting to know each other as the guide goes over the itinerary for the next few days. In the evening, cook your first highland meal together and have a good time.

A 30% deposit to secure your place is due upon booking. Once the trip is confirmed by the guide, the cancellation policy stated below applies, and deposits are no longer refundable. The remaining 70% of the amount is paid the latest 3 months (90 days) prior the departure.

In the event that the minimum number of people to confirm the trip is not reached, your guide can cancel the departure at most 2 months before the start of the trip. Please note the trips for 2022 and 2023 are expected to reach the minimum number of people soon, and the likelihood of trip not happening is very low.

In case you need to cancel the trip, the following cancellation costs would be incurred:
- 100% of the price of the trip is refundable before the group is guaranteed
- 70% of the tour price is refundable if canceled 59 days or more before departure, once the trip has been confirmed
- 50% of the tour price is refundable if canceled 30-59 days before departure
- 25% of the tour price is refundable if canceled 16-29 days before departure
- 0% of the price of the trip if it is canceled 15 days before departure.
All policies regarding cancellation will be clearly laid out by your guide after booking your adventure.

As soon as our guides publish new tour dates, you’ll be the first one to know. We’ll hold your spot for 2 weeks until you choose the date that suits you best.

- Only a 10% non-refundable deposit must be paid upon booking, but this deposit can be transferred to any other 57hours adventure in case the dates don’t end up working for you.
- Once our guides publish new tour dates, we’ll reach out to you so you’ll be the first one to choose from newly released dates.
- When you pick your date, you’ll confirm your booking by paying another 20% of the total trip amount (amounting to the standard 30% deposit).
- Once the trip has been confirmed, the regular cancellation policy (found above) applies.
- The remaining balance is due 90 days before the trip.

In this one-hour session, local guide Saga Líf will tell you all about the hiking trip that crosses into the realm of the gods! This must-do trek starts in the colorful rhyolite highlands, among steamy spring-fed streams and sprawling lava fields. As the trail threads past waterfalls, gorges and lagoons, mountains give way to volcanic lakes and jet-black beaches. Before long, blankets of resplendent moss and geothermal mud pools command the senses. But words don’t do Iceland justice—you have to see it to believe it.
