In order to enjoy this backcountry adventure, you need to have an excellent level of fitness. You will be on your feet for a full day — the ascent takes between 4 and 6 hours to make it to the top, and the altitude gain is of 1500m. The terrain on Yotei is for intermediate to advanced skiers, since you will need to manage steep descents over 30 degrees in variable conditions. Mount Yotei is dominated by slopes between 30 to 45 degrees, avalanche terrain, so all skiers should have at least an AAI Level 1 Avalanche course finished. All participants should feel comfortable on black level resort runs and be able to carry a loaded daypack while skinning up variable degrees of terrain.
